About the Organizations

Bravehearts Nepal: Founded in 2016 by young graduates of social work, Bravehearts Nepal is a non-profit organization that has been relentlessly working towards the education, empowerment, and protection of children across Nepal. Over the years, the organization has expanded its reach and impact, focusing on various sectors to ensure the welfare and well-being of children and youth. Bravehearts Nepal is driven by the vision of creating a safe and nurturing environment for all children, enabling them to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Babuko Asha, France: Babuko Asha France is a French-registered International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) dedicated to supporting child education and safeguarding. The organization has been instrumental in providing assistance to orphans, homeless, and needy children in Nepal.

Pabitra Samaj Sewa Nepal: Established in January 2002, Pabitra Samaj Sewa Nepal is a non-governmental organization committed to helping conflict-affected individuals, women, the disabled, orphans, and children of domestic violence victims. Under the leadership of founder and caretaker Dikshya Chapagain, it has become a sanctuary for those in need.

Objectives

• To improve the water management and sanitation systems at Pabitra Samaj Sewa Nepal.
• To install play facilities for the children residing at the shelter.
• To provide nutritious meals and celebrate the formal handover of the new facilities.

Background and Need Assessment

Upon conducting a thorough assessment of the conditions at Pabitra Samaj Sewa Nepal, Bravehearts Nepal identified several critical issues that needed immediate attention. The shelter, home to around 32 children and 12 elderly individuals, faced significant challenges in terms of water management, sanitation, and recreational facilities.

Interventions

Water Management and Sanitation: One of the most pressing issues was the unmanaged water sources and tanks. The water tanks were dispersed, open, and highly susceptible to contamination. With the monsoon season approaching, addressing this issue was crucial to prevent potential health hazards and ensure a safe and hygienic living environment.

Recreational Facilities for Children: The shelter had an open ground, but it lacked proper structures and equipment for the children to engage in recreational activities. Providing a safe and engaging play area was imperative to promote the overall development of the children.

Nutrition and Food Security: During the assessment, it was revealed that the children had limited access to nutritious food. Improving the nutritional intake of the children was essential to support their growth and development.

Activities & Execution

Pre-Event: Background work was conducted on the installation of the water pipes, drinking water management, and preparations for the play station installation.

Day 1 (July 26, 2024) - Implementations: The team along with volunteers and staff worked tirelessly to install new water distribution pipelines and enclose existing water tanks to prevent contamination. The mini play station was set up, play materials were distributed, and the area was floored with light grass to create a safe environment.

Day 2 (July 27, 2024) - Handover & Celebration: A formal handover ceremony officially presented the new facilities to Pabitra Samaj Sewa Nepal. A nutritious meal featuring special treats like chocolates and meat dishes was prepared and served to residents. Organized play sessions brought joy and excitement to the children in their new play area.
