Founder's Story

The journey of compassion that gave birth to Bravehearts Nepal.

From my early childhood in Gunsi, Ramechhap, I was deeply drawn toward social service and helping others. After completing my SLC from a government school in my village, I moved to Kathmandu for higher studies. Coming from a rural upbringing, Kathmandu was entirely new to me. However, struggle and hard work never discouraged me.

I initially studied Intermediate in Science, but the social realities of Nepal gradually changed my perspective. I realized that my passion was not in physical science, theories, or laboratory work — it was in understanding people's pain, sorrow, and struggles. My heart was more connected to humanity than to formulas. Therefore, I shifted my academic path from physical science to social science and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, which I completed with good academic results and practical experience.

Yet, even after completing my degree, I felt something was missing. Academic knowledge alone did not satisfy me. I understood that real social work is not limited to financial donations. While money certainly supports important causes, true social service also requires empathy, care, awareness, counseling, and consistent human connection.

The Turning Point — Nepal Earthquake 2015

When the devastating earthquake struck Nepal in April 2015, the entire nation was shaken. Nearly ten thousand lives were lost, countless families were displaced, and many were separated from loved ones.

But after a few days, I could not remain inside my tent while others were suffering deeply. I felt compelled to witness the ground reality. I traveled from Kathmandu to one of the most affected districts — Dolakha. After a terrifying nine-hour journey on muddy, slippery roads filled with aftershock fears, I reached the remote village of Lapilang VDC around 8 PM.

The situation there was heartbreaking. Most of the residents belonged to Thami and Dalit communities. They were living in temporary huts made of tin and bamboo, constantly worried about further aftershocks. No immediate donor agencies or organized support had reached them in time.

Children were among the most affected. Many did not even understand what an earthquake was or how to protect themselves. Villagers shared tragic stories, including one family that lost three children when their house collapsed.

Counseling and Awareness Initiative

Seeing the lack of awareness and psychological support, I decided to take action. As a social work student, I gathered children in the damaged Shree Gunrase Primary Government School, which had been temporarily rebuilt using tin sheets and bamboo.

I conducted an informal counseling and awareness session. I explained earthquake safety measures, clarified rumors, and encouraged children to share their fears openly. Slowly, I saw change — smiles returned to their faces, confidence increased, and they began speaking freely with one another.

That moment transformed me. I realized that even small actions — simple words of encouragement and correct information — could bring relief and hope.

The Birth of Bravehearts Nepal

"We do not need a reason to help people. If our small actions can reduce someone's pain or bring happiness into their life, then why should we hesitate?"

With this conviction, I officially registered a non-profit organization named Bravehearts Nepal (Sahasi Hridya).
